States. Vessels from over 60 nations are participating in an eight-city
tour of the United States beginning in San Juan, Puerto Rico and
continuing to Miami, Florida; Norfolk, Virginia; Baltimore, Maryland;
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; New York, New York; New London, Connecticut;
and Portland, Maine. Tens of millions of spectators are visiting
OpSail® Ports and attending OpSail® Events May 25 through July 31,
2000. OpSail 2000® celebrates America's maritime history and is
creating lasting memories for future generations.
Baltimore OpSail was June 23 through
June 29, 2000, (Philadephia and Baltimore split the large fleet
and the dates for the two cities were the same). With its internationally
famous Inner Harbor and ever-expanding waterfront, Baltimore provided
an exciting venue for maritime events. OpSail Baltimore 2000 was
produced by Sail Baltimore, the Mayors
Official Committee for Visiting Ships.
More than two dozen tall ships docked
in the Inner Harbor and Fells Point for the week-long international
maritime extravaganza celebrating the millennium. Public
programs included tours of tall ships, welcome ceremonies, Inner
Harbor festivities and entertainment, cultural celebrations, a parade
of sail, kids programs, a Captains Ball, concerts and
the worlds largest crab feast!
